The Sheldon is pleased to welcome cutting-edge chamber orchestra Alarm Will Sound for what they are calling their "St. Louis Season." The ensemble performs the newest music being composed today with energetic virtuosity and a sense of adventure, creating programs that not only span a wide range of styles, but also innovate the traditional concert experience itself. The New York Times calls Alarm Will Sound "the future of classical music" and "one of the most vital and original ensembles on the American Music scene."
The first of three performances during the 2012-13 season, the concert will offer a sampling of Alarm Will Sound's diverse repertoire of modern music, including works composed by John Adams, Aphex Twin, Conlon Nancarrow, Edgard Varèse, and Charles Wuorinen.
The performance will conclude with two pieces composed specifically for Alarm Will Sound: Yotam Haber's We Were All, written for and first played at the 2011 Mizzou New Music Summer Festival (now the Mizzou International Composers Festival); and Unremixed, composed by Alarm Will Sound cellist and University of Missouri music professor Stefan Freund.
