Arts & Faith St. Louis is following the COVID situation and will make a decision on a masking policy for the concert. We are currently thinking that, in respect for and solidarity with members of the St. Louis community who are more vulnerable to COVID, that we will require that masks be worn while indoors at The Sheldon.

For over ten years, Arts & Faith St. Louis concerts have brought together people of all faiths and ethnicities for a shared musical experience to encourage respect and understanding and to bridge divides. This year’s theme reflects on what it means to put faith into action.

The 2022 concert features soprano Christine Brewer, accompanied by pianist AllaVoskoboynikova, singing two songs–the spiritual “City Called Heaven,” and the world premiere of the commissioned work “The Light of the Divine” with music by Kim Portnoy, lyrics by Melissa Bishop and Kim Portnoy.

The Interfaith Youth Chorus, directed by Maria A. Ellis, with pianist Nathan Coleman, will perform two songs: “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers, and the world premiere of the commissioned work “All We Believe” by Stuart Chapman Hill.

After the concert, the audience is invited to mingle on Washington Avenue and view a display of visual art inspired by the theme “Faith Into Action.” Audience members are encouraged to meet the visual artists and music performers during the post-concert event.

The concert lineup features performances by Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Baha’i and Christian faith community choirs and ensembles. The concert begins with the singing of the National Anthem with emerging operatic soprano Angel Riley, a native of Belleville, Illinois.

The concert will be streamed live on Facebook by HEC Media.

It will be available to view after the concert on HEC Media’s YouTube channel and on the Arts & Faith website.

In September 2011, on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, leaders of the Jewish Community Relations Council, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, The Sheldon, and Interfaith Partnership of Greater St. Louis reached out to many faiths and organized an Interfaith Concert to promote a more harmonious community. The concert became an annual event with themes promoting peace, racial equity and inclusion, encouragement to young people, welcoming the stranger, hope, and compassion.
