Tune in to The Sheldon’s Facebook page for this Virtual Notes From Home concert with Tim Kampen’s Jazz Expedition!

Raised in St. Louis, studying guitar and classical cello, Tim Kampen’s relocation to Nashville, Tennessee found him featured on PBS as a solo cellist in Belmont Strings studying under world renowned electric violinist Tracy Silverman in his Jazz String Quartet. Kampen was awarded principal of the Belmont Symphony Orchestra and has also played in the Nashville Philharmonic.

Through freelancing and session playing in Nashville, Kampen played with Barrage 8 national tour (2016-2017), and was selected to play with the Hollywood Film Music Orchestra in Nanjing, China under the direction of Erik Ochsner; the principal touring conductor of La La Land. Innovation and his alternative styles of cello playing led Kampen to pioneer a new instrument coined “Cellola”.

He is the composer and leader of REígnite™ – a touring percussive string quartet whose mission is to cross cultures through the universal language of music, inspiring audiences to reflect on their own journey in life.

Kampen’s compositions have featured Snarky Puppy’s Zach Brock, Juilliard grad violinist Tracy Silverman, electric violin inventor and member of the Turtle Island String Quartet Billy Contreras, and many others. He has played for artists such as Johnny Swim, Brantly Gilbert, Devin Dawson, Liza Anne, The Bundys, Michael W. Smith, Peter Frampton and Ricky Skaggs.
