Join us online beginning April 24 for “Live From The Sheldon” with world music superstar Zakir Hussain!

Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the live concert with Zakir Hussain, originally scheduled for April 1, 2021, has been cancelled. Ticket buyers will be contacted with refund information. 

Widely considered the father of the contemporary world music movement and a classical tabla virtuoso, percussionist Zakir Hussain is an international phenomenon. One of the most influential musicians of the past 50 years, and co-founder of the legendary fusion band Shakti, Hussain is known for his masterful improvisations and brilliant live performances.

Hussain is joined by his fellow Masters of Percussion: Anantha Krishnan, Mridangam; Marcus Gilmore, drums; and Pezhham Akhavass, tombak and daf.

In addition to these local outlets, the concert will also be broadcast by partner venues throughout the region, including The Stiefel Theatre in Salina, KS; McCain Auditorium at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS; Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, KS; ECC Arts Center at Elgin Community College, Elgin, IL; Five Points Washington in Washington, IL; Connect2Culture in Joplin, MO; Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA; and Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji, IA.

A free, monthly, virtual series spotlighting some of the most creative artists locally and from around the country, “Live From The Sheldon” streams on both The Sheldon’s and HEC’s Facebook and YouTube pages, and is available on HEC Media’s cable channels: 989 Spectrum and 99 U-verse.
