Las Cafeteras engages youth in an exciting celebration of Mexican-American culture through lively songs, powerful story-sharing, and inspiring messages! With love as their first language and accompanied by traditional instruments, Las Cafeteras invite folks of all ages to share the stories of their own cultures and communities with dancing and sing-alongs in English, Spanish (and Spanglish). Students will learn about traditional Son Jarocho instruments like the jarana, requinto, quijada (donkey jawbone) and tarima (a wooden platform), and groove to a remix of sounds from rock to hip-hop to rancheras.

Tickets for live, in-person programs are $4 per student. Scholarships may be available to eligible schools.

The virtual event will stream live at the scheduled concert time. Each show will be 45 minutes long and will engage students in interactive participation throughout. Performances will be available for two weeks following the initial air date. A link and instructions on how to connect, will be sent via e-mail a week before your scheduled event.

The health and safety of our guests, staff, artists and volunteers is our top priority. The Sheldon is a proud Missouri ArtSafe certified venue. As The Sheldon continues to monitor the regulations and recommendations set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the City of St. Louis regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, the following practices will be in place to ensure the health and wellness of The Sheldon’s patrons, artists and staff.

Face masks will be required for all students, parents and teachers at all times while in the building. Everyone will need to keep their face masks covering their nose and mouth throughout the concert. Each school group will be ushered into the concert hall and dismissed individually to avoid cross traffic with other schools. Schools will be seated with more than 6 feet of distance between their group and the next. For the safety of our guests, all Sheldon staff, musicians, guest artists, ushers and volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated.
